Dear Reader,

There is a new trend that is about to take the wedding scene by storm. Bridgerton…..as it captured the attention of millions of Netflix viewers; I can just see all of the gorgeous monochromatic weddings that will be everywhere in 2021 and 2022. The elegant color scheme of periwinkle blue that dominated the screen on Bridgerton and everything from the decor to the flowers to the decadent gowns and garb worn by both the hosts and the guests.

Not only do monochromatic weddings look incredible on screen, but in your wedding photos as well. I love when couples encourage their guests to actively participate in the overall theme by dressing up and being part of the overall design and feel that they have planned for. The singular color choice truly streamlines the overall planning process, taking additional decisions out of the equation with a beautiful one-color wedding.

What exactly is a Monochromatic Wedding?

A monochromatic design is when your overall look is based on one color and filled with all the tones, tints and shades of that same color. Often, couples will opt to incorporate complimentary hues such as sage and peach, navy and gold or burgundy and emerald. A monochromatic wedding, on the other hand, will focus entirely on just one color which is woven throughout the event in all aspects from your linens and decor, to the signature cocktails and food…even the attire of both you and your guests.

It is a common misconception that a one-color wedding might look somewhat dull, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We believe that since colors have so many tones, hues and varieties to work with one color could never be boring. It can be used in so many ways, large or small, you just need to be sure it works well in your venue space.

How has ‘Bridgerton’ Mastered this Wedding Trend.

While monochromatic weddings aren’t a new trend, Bridgerton’s blue-themed ball was a flawless, modern execution of this stunning trend. The airiness of the design is what made their monochromatic ball such a success. The blue color palette was soft and elegant, but the color really popped against the outdoor setting, so you must be intentional about your color selection.

However, it wasn’t just the color choice that wowed event planners and brides everywhere. It was also the creative way in which the color was used. The periwinkle, displayed in various shades, tones and tints was key in creating depth and texture providing the eye places to roam. Variation is key to monochromatic events, creating diversity when working within the restrictions of one color. Between the hosts’ and the guests’ clothing, the jewelry, the table linens, the flowers and the space itself…even the staircase and roof were shades of periwinkle, the event serves as an example of how to expertly incorporate different tones of your chosen color.
